Castledermot (Irish: Diseart Diarmada, meaning "Dermot's Hermitage") is an inland village in the south-east of Ireland in County Kildare,it originated in an early Christian monastic settlement founded in 812 A.D. About 75 km (47 mi) from Dublin, and 10 km (6 mi) from the town of Carlow. The N9 road from Dublin to Waterford passes through the village but completion of a bypass is due during 2010. The parish of Castledermot which is part of the Blessington Deanery in the Diocese of Dublin, comprises the town of Castledermot, and the villages of Levitstown and Kilkea and their environs

The population of the town was 887 at the time of the (January 2006) census, a 22% increase over the figure recorded in 2002. The settlement is growing due to our proximity to Dublin. The River Lerr (a tributary of the larger River Barrow, the second longest river in Ireland) flows through the town
